Weeknote 125

Over heated week

  • London felt like a pressure cooker this week, with intense heat for much of the day and little change during the nights. Glad things are cooling down just a little today.
  • After a lengthy wait, I finally went to the hospital to get the results of my CT scan. The doctor arrived late and didn’t bother to turn on his computer to review my results. The consultation was rushed—he simply carried out a physical examination and told me surgery wasn’t necessary unless I was experiencing pain, but ultimately left the decision to me. I walked away feeling rather confused, and later began to wonder if NHS waitlists and funding pressures may have shaped his recommendation.
  • Saturday I joined Mena for a tour of London Bridge station as part of the Railway 200 celebrations. Overall interesting but no behind-the-scenes glimpses or anything particularly interesting learnt.
  • We headed to Maltby Street Market for delicious empanadas and drinks after in the cool of the railway arches.
  • I went cycling with Luis on Sunday to Leith Hill, which was refreshing under the full shade of tree lined roads. The route featured some nerve-racking descents—both on the way there and heading back down to Dorking—where I really put my disc brakes through their paces!
