Weeknote 140

Accessibility meetup, charity race, Somali feast

  • Midweek I attended a new meetup in London on the topic of accessibility, A11Y Together. This was made up of panel discussions on improving lives for blind and/or visually impaired people and inclusive research.
  • A cycling podcast by Ned Boulting tipped me off to a charity race event happening on a steep cobbled alleyway in south-east London. Curious, I went along on Saturday and found myself among a cheerful crowd, including Ned commentating, watching 50 participants—cyclists, runners, walkers, and one determined dog—tackle the 150-metre ascent. Ages ranged from 2 to 90, and the atmosphere of the event was very cheerful.
  • I joined Mena to visit a new Somali restaurant in Harringay, Sabiib Somali, where we enjoyed their hearty platter meal and discovered delicious new flavours. Definitely one to revisit!
  • On Sunday, we attended a sold-out screening of The History of Sound at the Royal Festival Hall during the London Film Festival. Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor gave a wonderfully touching performance—I’d highly recommend it.
