Weeknote 91

Hackney comedy, Latin Oasis in London

  • At work, I was pleased to be included on some mobile app accessibility training with Jon Gibbins. The GOV.UK App for iOS is gradually taking shape, but there are still some accessibility issues to test more and resolve. I haven't done much accessibility testing of apps in the past, so certainly have some learning to do!
  • Saddened and angered, but not entirely surprised, by the Grenfell Tower inquiry report that was published this past week. Will things ever change for the better? I hope, but even in my block of flats small patches of flammable cladding still exist, and despite indications of it being removed this year, nothing yet.
  • At the weekend I joined a friend in Hackney for some great beer and pizza at the Pembury Tavern followed by a comedy show at the Hackney Empire. It was Nish Kumar's tour, Don't kill my vibe. Although very politically focused, loud, with a lot of strong language and high paced, I enjoyed the show overall.
  • There's a new Colombian restaurant, Latin Oasis, I discovered with Ximena near Finsbury Park. I found it surprisingly good in terms of flavourful food and very good value for the portion sizes. I tried their fresh empanadas and had my first try of a dish, patacon con carne desmechada (fried plantain with shredded beef).
